On The Air!

Join me each Sunday afternoon, 2:00-4:00pm ET, on 630 WMAL - AM, Washington, DC's premier News/Talk Station.  (Streaming audio is available from WMAL's site -- and my show is now available, 4 Sundays at a time, for download and podcasting "On Demand.")

From my point of view, Thanksgiving is just about the perfect American spiritual holiday.  It's not overlaid with heavy religious symbolism of one type or another, and everyone can define it, and celebrate it, as he or she chooses.  But there's a growing wave in this country, once again, to force us to take up religious "sides" -- and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said last week, essentially, that he thinks we shouldn't divide our government from religion.  And he might be the next Chief Justice!  So do you agree with him?  Should we change the wording of the 1st Amendment to get away with that nagging debate over the separation of church and state?  Tune in today to 630 WMAL in Washington, DC, and we'll talk about it.

Culture Wars / Faith and Moral Values -- It's the sign of our time.  Tonight's episode of "Desperate Housewives" on ABC will get a tremendous audience on the heels of the Monday Night Football racy clip controversy.  The NBA's players and fans don't know how to behave themselves.  The Pentagon agrees not to sponsor Boy Scout troops anymore, because they require a pledge to God.  And the Air Force Academy has been forced to remove a locker-room banner displaying the "Competitor's Creed," because it's essentially a Christian prayer.

My question to you today:  How far do you want to go in pulling back to a "more moral" country?

Meanwhile, my challenge to you continues, irrespective of your political and/or spiritual point-of-view:  Get out your checkbook NOW and donate to 630 WMAL's "Operation Homefront," a major fundraising campaign benefitting Fisher House, a "Ronald McDonald's"-like organization that provides housing and other assistance to those service men and women in need of medical care, and their families.  Click HERE for more information, and for guidelines on how to donate, and where to send your checks.

As of Friday afternoon, Nov. 19th, we've raised over $335,000.00, on our way to our goal of $500,000.00 by the end of the year.  Won't you help?

A Challenge To My Friends . . .

Sunday, November 14:

Today's question is simple, direct, and to the point:  Are you your brother's keeper?  Do you have a responsibility to those less fortunate than you, who might be willing to put his or her life on the line for you?

Here's my challenge to you, irrespective of your political and/or spiritual point-of-view:  Get out your checkbook NOW and donate to 630 WMAL's "Operation Homefront," a major fundraising campaign benefitting Fisher House, a "Ronald McDonald's"-like organization that provides housing and other assistance to those service men and women in need of medical care, and their families.  Click HERE for more information, and for guidelines on how to donate, and where to send your checks.

I'm making this challenge to those of you who believe we are our brother's -- and sister's -- keeper:  Whether you're a liberal like me, or a conservative like so many of our listeners, this is a moral obligation.  630 WMAL's listeners have responded incredibly this week, but we need more.  Send your check in with a note that you're doing this because I asked you in particular -- I want our liberal listeners, or those who listen to me on Sunday afternoons even if you disagree with much of what I say -- to be counted among those who meet our highest obligations to each other.

Mail Checks To:
630 WMAL Attention: Operation Homefront
4400 Jenifer St, NW Washington, DC 20015
Make checks payable to: Fisher House Foundation
And include a note that you're sending this in at the encouragement of:
